The Transfiguration Church is the only wooden church in Bulgaria. It was built based on the idea of prominent and influential public figures, scientists and villa owners in the former Chamkoria. The funds for the construction were collected as donations. The foundation stone was laid in 1933.

The architect of the wooden church was an Austrian and therefore it was built in the typical Gothic Alpine style.

On September 23, 1934 the church was solemnly consecrated by Exarch Stefan.

In 1988 it was almost demolished, but then rebuilt in its current form
